Hisense in South Africa
Hisense has become one of South Africa's most popular appliance and aircon brands, known for good value fridges, side-by-sides, chest freezers and inverter aircons. Many households bought a Hisense as a first fridge, a second fridge for the garage, a chest freezer or an affordable inverter aircon.
We are an independent repair company and not a Hisense agent, but we repair Hisense appliances regularly.
Hisense fridges and freezers
Hisense makes a broad range: bar fridges, top- and bottom-freezer fridges, side-by-sides with water dispensers, upright freezers and chest freezers. Common faults include:
- Fridge warm, freezer cold on frost-free models, from defrost heater, sensor or control faults
- Fan motor failures stopping cold air circulating
- Thermostat and temperature sensor faults
- Starter relay and compressor starting faults, often after power cuts
- Door and lid seal wear
- Gas leaks, including damage caused by using sharp objects to remove ice
One common and avoidable cause of Hisense freezer and bar fridge repairs is damage from defrosting with a knife or screwdriver. The cooling tubes are just behind the inner wall, and one slip can puncture them. Always let ice melt naturally.

Hisense aircons
Hisense inverter split aircons are a popular choice for bedrooms and living areas. We repair:
- Gas leaks and low refrigerant
- Capacitor and outdoor fan faults
- Indoor and outdoor board and sensor faults, shown as error codes
- Communication errors between indoor and outdoor units
- Blocked drains causing leaks indoors
- Salt corrosion on outdoor units near the coast

Is a Hisense worth repairing?
Because many Hisense appliances are good value to buy, owners sometimes assume a repair is not worth it. Often it is. Fans, thermostats, sensors, relays, defrost parts and seals are affordable repairs, and on larger models like side-by-sides and inverter aircons a repair is usually far cheaper than replacement. On a small, older bar fridge with a gas leak, replacement may make more sense. We will give you the price and our honest opinion.
Tips for Hisense owners
- Never use sharp objects to remove ice.
- Leave space around fridges and freezers for ventilation.
- Use delayed-restart surge protectors.
- Clean aircon filters monthly in summer and service annually.
Bar fridges and second fridges
Hisense bar fridges and second fridges often live in entertainment areas, braai rooms, home offices and garages, where they work harder than a kitchen fridge. Give them space for ventilation, keep them out of direct sun and avoid enclosing them in tight cabinets without vents. Defrost manual models before the ice gets thick, and never use sharp tools to do it.
