Samsung in South African homes
Samsung is one of the most common appliance brands in South African kitchens and laundries. Many homes have a Samsung side-by-side or French-door fridge, a Samsung front loader and, increasingly, a Samsung inverter aircon. These appliances are packed with features and electronics, which makes them pleasant to use and occasionally tricky to diagnose.
We are an independent repair company. We are not affiliated with Samsung, but our technicians have repaired Samsung appliances for many years and know their common faults well.
Samsung fridges
Samsung fridges commonly use a digital inverter compressor and, on many models, separate cooling systems for the fridge and freezer sections. The faults we see most often are:
- Ice build-up behind the back panel, which blocks airflow and leaves the fridge or freezer warm. Usually a defrost heater, sensor or control fault.
- Ice maker problems, such as ice freezing into a solid block, the ice maker not filling or water leaking from the dispenser.
- Fan noise, often from ice touching the evaporator fan blades.
- Control board and compressor driver faults, sometimes after power surges.
- Water leaks from blocked defrost drains or water lines.

Samsung washing machines
Samsung front loaders and washer-dryers, including EcoBubble and inverter-motor models, are popular for their efficiency. Common repairs include:
- Drain pump blockages and failures, often showing a drainage error code
- Door lock faults that stop the machine starting or leave the door locked
- Water supply errors from blocked inlet filters or faulty valves
- Worn bearings and shock absorbers from heavy loads
- Unbalanced-load errors and spin problems
- Control board faults after surges
Samsung machines show error codes on the display. Common ones relate to water supply, drainage, unbalanced loads and the door. Send us a photo of the code and the model sticker and we can usually identify the fault before we arrive. See our Samsung washing machine repair pages for Cape Town and Gqeberha.
Samsung aircons
Samsung's inverter split aircons, including WindFree models designed to cool without a direct draught, are installed in many homes and offices. We repair:
- Gas leaks and low refrigerant
- Capacitor and outdoor fan faults
- Indoor and outdoor board and sensor faults, often shown as error codes
- Blocked drains causing water to drip indoors
- Corrosion on outdoor units near the coast

Tips for Samsung owners
- Use surge protection. Samsung's inverter electronics are efficient but sensitive to power spikes.
- Keep the model sticker handy. It tells us exactly which parts your appliance uses.
- Do not chip at ice inside the freezer. Sharp tools can puncture the cooling system. Call us instead.
- Clean the washing machine filter every month or two to prevent drainage errors.
- Service aircons once a year, or every six months near the sea.
Independent repairs and your warranty
If your Samsung appliance is still under Samsung's warranty, contact Samsung or your retailer first, as an independent repair may affect a warranty claim. Once the manufacturer's warranty has ended, our repairs carry our own 6-month warranty.
Frequently asked questions
Can you fix a Samsung fridge with ice behind the back panel?
Yes. This is usually a defrost system fault. We find the faulty heater, sensor or control and repair it, rather than just melting the ice.
Do you repair Samsung washer-dryers?
Yes, including both washing and drying faults.
Do you repair Samsung WindFree aircons?
Yes. We repair and service Samsung inverter aircons, including WindFree models.
Do your repairs carry a warranty?
Yes. Every repair carries a 6-month warranty on parts we fit and our workmanship. We have more than 15+ years of experience and quote before any work starts.
Do you charge a callout fee?
Our callout fee is R400. It covers the visit and the diagnosis, and it is waived if you go ahead with the repair or installation, so you only pay it if you decide not to proceed.
Are you an authorised Samsung agent?
No. A1 Refrigeration is an independent repair company and is not affiliated with or authorised by Samsung. If your Samsung appliance is still under the manufacturer's warranty, contact Samsung or your retailer first.

Where to find your Samsung model number
- Fridge: inside the fridge on a side wall, or behind the vegetable drawer. Take a clear photo of the whole label.
- Washing Machine: inside the door rim, on the back panel or behind the filter flap at the bottom front.
- Aircon: on the side of the indoor unit (lift the front cover if needed) and on the side of the outdoor unit. Photograph both.
