LG appliances
LG is one of the biggest appliance and aircon brands in South Africa. Its fridges, front loaders and inverter aircons are found in homes, flats and offices across Cape Town and Gqeberha. LG is known for engineering features such as inverter and linear compressors in its fridges, direct-drive motors in its washing machines and dual inverter compressors in its aircons.
We are an independent repair company. We are not affiliated with LG, but we repair LG appliances regularly and know their designs and common faults.
LG fridges
Many LG fridges use inverter or linear compressors, which are quiet and efficient. LG also makes side-by-sides, French-door fridges and models with a Door-in-Door compartment and water and ice dispensers.
Faults we fix most often:
- Fridge not cooling, or cooling poorly, where the cause may be the compressor, its control, a fan, the defrost system or a refrigerant leak
- Ice maker and dispenser faults, including frozen fill tubes and leaking water lines
- Ice build-up on the evaporator from defrost faults
- Noisy fans and ice touching fan blades
- Door seal and Door-in-Door seal wear letting in warm air
Because the compressor is such an important part on LG fridges, we test carefully before reaching any conclusion: many faults that look like compressor failure turn out to be something simpler. See our LG fridge repair pages for Cape Town and Gqeberha.
LG washing machines
LG front loaders use a direct-drive motor mounted on the back of the drum, without a belt. That design is quiet and robust, but it has its own faults:
- Motor and rotor position sensor faults causing the drum not to turn, or to turn jerkily
- Drain pump blockages, shown as a drainage code
- Water inlet faults, from blocked filters or valves
- Door lock faults
- Unbalanced load errors
- Worn bearings and leaking tub seals on older machines
LG machines display letter codes for drainage, water inlet, door, unbalance and motor faults. A photo of the code and model sticker helps us bring the right part. See our LG washing machine repair pages for Cape Town and Gqeberha.
LG aircons
LG's dual inverter split aircons are efficient and quiet. We repair:
- Gas leaks and low refrigerant
- Outdoor fan and capacitor faults
- Board and sensor faults, shown as error codes
- Drain blockages and water leaks indoors
- Corrosion on coastal outdoor units

Tips for LG owners
- Protect inverter electronics with surge protection.
- Run the tub clean programme on LG front loaders monthly to prevent smells and residue.
- Clean the drain pump filter regularly.
- Replace fridge water filters on schedule if your fridge has a dispenser.
- Service aircons annually, or every six months near the coast.
Independent repairs and your warranty
If your LG appliance is still under LG's warranty, contact LG or your retailer first, as an independent repair may affect a warranty claim. After the manufacturer's warranty ends, our repairs carry our own 6-month warranty.
Frequently asked questions
Can you repair an LG fridge that has stopped cooling?
Yes. We test the compressor, its control, fans, defrost system and refrigerant before recommending a repair.
My LG washing machine drum will not turn. What is wrong?
On direct-drive models this can be a motor, rotor position sensor, wiring or board fault. We test each to find the cause.
Do you service LG inverter aircons?
Yes. We service and repair LG split aircons, including dual inverter models.
Do your repairs carry a warranty?
Yes. Every repair carries a 6-month warranty on parts we fit and our workmanship. We have more than 15+ years of experience and quote before any work starts.
Do you charge a callout fee?
Our callout fee is R400. It covers the visit and the diagnosis, and it is waived if you go ahead with the repair or installation, so you only pay it if you decide not to proceed.
Are you an authorised LG agent?
No. A1 Refrigeration is an independent repair company and is not affiliated with or authorised by LG. If your LG appliance is still under the manufacturer's warranty, contact LG or your retailer first.

Where to find your LG model number
- Fridge: inside the fridge on a side wall, or behind the vegetable drawer. Take a clear photo of the whole label.
- Washing Machine: inside the door rim, on the back panel or behind the filter flap at the bottom front.
- Aircon: on the side of the indoor unit (lift the front cover if needed) and on the side of the outdoor unit. Photograph both.
