Samsung aircons in Cape Town
Samsung split aircons, many with digital inverter compressors and some with WindFree cooling that disperses air through tiny holes to avoid a direct draught, are installed in Cape Town homes, apartments and offices. They are efficient and quiet, and with regular servicing they last well.
Cape Town asks a lot of them: hot, dry summers in the northern suburbs and Winelands, cold wet winters when they heat, and salt and sand along the coast.
Samsung aircon faults we fix
Not cooling or heating properly
Dirty filters and coils, low refrigerant from a leak, a failed capacitor, an outdoor fan fault or a sensor problem. Clean the filters first; if it still struggles, it needs a diagnosis.
Error codes
Samsung indoor units show codes when they detect a fault. Codes vary by model, but common groups are communication errors between indoor and outdoor units, sensor faults, outdoor unit protection and fan faults. Take a photo of the code and the model stickers on both units.
Outdoor unit not starting
The indoor fan blows but the outdoor unit is silent or hums. Often a capacitor, a board fault or a communication problem.
Heating faults in winter
A unit that cools fine but blows cold air in heating mode may have a reversing valve, sensor or defrost fault. Short pauses with steam from the outdoor unit on cold mornings are normal defrost cycles.
Water dripping indoors
A blocked drain line or tray, especially after a long dry spell or in humid weather.
Corrosion near the sea
In Sea Point, Green Point, Blouberg, Muizenberg, Fish Hoek and Strand, salt corrodes outdoor coils, joints and brackets, eventually causing gas leaks.
WindFree units
WindFree models have a perforated front panel and a fan system that changes how air is delivered. Keep the panel and filters clean, as dust blocks the tiny holes and reduces airflow. We service and repair WindFree units like any other Samsung split.

A service includes cleaning filters, coils and the blower, flushing the drain, checking gas pressures, testing capacitors and connections, and checking for corrosion.
Power interruptions
Inverter boards are sensitive to surges. Switch the aircon off with the remote during outages and wait a few minutes after power returns before switching on. Surge protection at the distribution board helps.
Repair or replace?
Capacitors, fans, sensors, drains and repairable leaks are well worth fixing. A badly corroded outdoor coil or failed compressor on an older unit may make replacement better value. We will tell you honestly.

- The model sticker: on the side of the indoor unit (lift the front cover if needed) and on the side of the outdoor unit. Photograph both.
- What is happening: any error code on the display, noises, smells or leaks, and when it started.

- Other appliances that need attention, so we can look at them on the same visit.
