The thermostat controls when the compressor runs. If it fails, the fridge may stay warm, or run constantly and freeze vegetables solid. Thermostat replacement is one of our most common Defy repairs and is quick and affordable.

Frost-free models: freezer cold, fridge warm

On frost-free Defy fridge-freezers, cold air is blown from the freezer into the fridge. If the defrost heater, timer or sensor fails, ice blocks the air channel. The freezer stays cold but the fridge warms up.

Clicking, not starting

A click every few minutes with no hum means the compressor is trying to start and failing. Often the starter relay or overload, especially after power cuts. Switch the fridge off to protect the compressor and call us.

Running all the time

A dirty condenser, worn door seal, failing thermostat or low gas.

Ice build-up

On manual-defrost models, ice builds up naturally and needs defrosting. Fast build-up means a worn seal is letting in moist air.
